The campaign “Say No to Plastic” was launched by SAARC Energy Centre (SEC), Islamabad, in connection with “World Environment Day” that is observed across the world on 5th June every year.
SEC distributed thousands of pamphlets for the awareness of general public, hoisted banners on major road crossings, arranged radio talks on National radio.
On this occasion Executive Head, SAARC Energy Centre, Mr. Mohammad Naeem Malik, informed that SAARC Energy Centre (SEC) celebrates the day each year by contributing towards the cause either in the form of public awareness or through physical involvement. It is the ‘People’s Day’ for doing something positive for the environment. Its aim is to harness individual actions and transform them into a collective power that has a legacy of real and lasting impact on the planet.
He further added that the theme set by UN this year is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. SEC has also set its focus to fight plastic pollution. Every year, Five Trillion plastic bags are consumed, threatening marine and human life and destroying our natural ecosystems. SEC has plans to continue its campaign after the holy month of Ramadan with more enthusiasm including awareness campaigns at schools, clean up campaigns and poster competitions among students.
