SAARC Energy Centre, Islamabad successfully organized a Webinar on “Use of Solar Energy in Water Desalination” on Tuesday, 30th April, 2019 from 1100 – 1330 PKT (Pakistan Standard Time).
The webinar was an effort to share the available knowledge and experience of the experts from different organizations involved in the thermal desalination of sea water as well as researchers from the research organizations. As solar thermal desalination is in its early stages, with a few projects recently established, therefore the webinar not only shared theoretical knowledge, but also shared the important learning from those recent projects with the SAARC professionals. Following are the major aspects covered in the webinar:
- General Problems in Seawater Desalination
- Solar Energy Utilization and Thermal Desalination Technologies
- Multi-Stage Flash Distillation (MSF)
- Multi-Effect Distillation (MED)
- Vapor Compression Distillation
- Solar Desalination System Combined with Conventional Technologies
- Absorption and Adsorption Solar Desalination System
- Barriers and challenges in solar thermal desalination
- Costs involved in solar thermal desalination
- The Benefit Evaluation and Material Selecting
- Global examples
- Implementation in SAARC region
- Commercial viability
