Solar energy deployment is growing rapidly across the SAARC region, with the total installed solar capacity reaching approximately 200 GW. As more solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are connected to the grid, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have become increasingly important for improving grid stability, enhancing the use of renewable energy, and ensuring a reliable power supply. The objective of this webinar was to discuss the importance of the optimal sizing and placement of battery energy storage systems for efficient solar energy integration.
The webinar was conducted by the SAARC Energy Centre (SEC) on 22nd July, 2026. During this webinar, Dr. Haseeb Ahmad from Pakistan and Dr. Dwipen Boruah from India shared their knowledge and practical experience on the optimal sizing and placement of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for solar energy applications. The speakers discussed the role of battery storage in improving grid reliability, maximizing the use of solar power, reducing energy losses, ensuring system safety, and supporting the long-term sustainability of power networks. They also highlighted the latest approaches, challenges, and best practices for integrating battery storage with solar energy systems in the SAARC region.
