The webinar on “Transmission & Distribution Augmentation for Solar and Wind Power Injections” was conducted on 10 September 2026, with experts from Pakistan and Sri Lanka engaged to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on the subject.
The experts emphasized that the rapid deployment of renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, needs to be accompanied by a commensurate expansion, strengthening, and modernization of electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The experts further noted that inadequate transmission capacity can lead to network congestion, renewable energy curtailment, system instability, and delays in connecting new generation projects.
The webinar also highlighted the implications of T&D constraints for investment and project financing. Investors may be reluctant to develop new renewable energy projects where there is a significant risk that the electricity generated cannot be evacuated due to limitations in transmission and distribution networks. Similarly, lenders may perceive projects located in areas with inadequate grid infrastructure as carrying higher financial and operational risks, potentially making project financing more difficult or increasing the cost of financing.
