Rooftop solar adoption is accelerating across the SAARC region, with the compensation mechanisms behind grid exports are playing a defining role in that growth. The objective of this webinar was to discuss how these mechanisms have evolved globally, the trade-offs faced by utilities and prosumers alike, and where policy in the region is headed next.
The webinar was conducted by SEC on 14th July, 2026, in collaboration with IRENA. During this webinar, the experts from IRENA and Pakistan discussed the potential for adapting and evolving existing compensation structures, from net metering to net billing and other emerging models, to keep pace with the region’s growing rooftop solar market, as well as key challenges emerging from early adopter Member States in the SAARC region.
