The intensive 3-day Workshop on Financial modeling for Renewable Energy Projects was conducted in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 5th-7th October, 2026 in collaboration with Ministry of Energy, Government of Sri Lanka.
The 3-day agenda spanned key technical, regulatory, and practical themes:
- Member State Policy & Global Trends: Country presentations on RE policy and regulatory frameworks, alongside global energy trends and regional market architecture.
- Project Finance & Modeling Tools: Fundamentals of project finance, risk-return profiles, and an overview of software tools like SAM, CREST, and RETScreen etc.
- Hands-On Tariff Modeling: Interactive working exercises where country teams-built tariff models from scratch—covering capital costs, revenue blocks, debt service schedules, DSCR/covenants, and sensitivity/scenario testing.
- Field Visit: An insightful site visit to the Aitken Spence 10MW Waste-to-Energy plant in Colombo.
The delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, The Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka participated inperson and online. The distinguished resource persons mentioned below put their effort to impart the knowledge.
